Do We Really Want A War? It’s The Last Thing We Should Wish For

War, war, war! There are many Indians who are indulged in glorifying the chant. In the recent tension between India and Pakistan, social media is abuzz with the demand for war. Yes, the eagerness for taking revenge is natural in this Indo-Pak tension situation. After all, it’s one of the basic human instincts. But, is that a sensible solution? The short answer is NO. We may argue that there are times when to prevail in peace, war is needed. However, that should be the last resort. Pakistan has always tried to break the tranquility that India tried to maintain. This is a fact! A war, however, will not just ‘punish’ our untrustworthy neighbors but burn our own homes too.

If a war breaks out then it will affect the countries in the worst way possible. Given the economic situation of Pakistan, it will crumble within a few days. So, why should we care if our ‘enemy’ faces issue? The war will also mean Indian soldiers sacrificing their lives. It will also mean a huge hurdle in the present economic progress. It will also mean the risk of a nuclear war.

The situation started from Pulwama attack and since then the world powers have shown their support towards India. However, they are also urging the nations not to opt for the path of war. This is a threat not only for India or Pakistan but also the other world powers. Since, they have invested in these countries, a conflict will show its impact on the world economy.

Many people might raise the issue that not going to war is a sign of cowardice. No, it’s not! The social media jingoism and mindless warmongering that we are seeing is not bravery. The common citizens never desire for war. War, as I personally feel, should be the least preferred means. It creates more questions than solutions. War is destruction and there is no way around that.

Furthermore, aren’t there many important things to deal with rather than wedging a war? Poverty, joblessness, crime, etc are plaguing the nation. Shall we not declare a war against those first?

The present situation is like a ticking bomb that can blast anytime and result in a bloodbath. This is the time when media should come forward to put a cap on the situation and not present opinionated version that might escalate the rage felt by the Indians. However, after seeing their ‘responsible’ reporting style in IAF pilot Abhinandan case that seems like a distant possibility. IAF pilot Abhinandan is captured by the Pakistani army and he has refused to give any information under interrogation. Indian media, however, took the charge of playing messiah for Pakistan and revealed personal info about the pilot.

Borrowing lines from George Orwell’s 1984 the motto ‘war is peace’ can never be true. There are netizens who think the same. Here are some of the comments.

Recently, Pakistan PM Imran Khan announced the release of the captured pilot. Hopefully, this will help in deescalating the Indo-Pak tension. What do you think? Do you think war is the only solution? Why don’t you share your thoughts in the comments?
